California gasoline has 10% ethanol, which is bio fuel. The problem with this is that when a scooter or motorcycle, or for that matter anything with a carburetor, sits for awhile, even as little as two months, the carburetor jets get clogged with shellac as the gas evaporates.

There are multiple fuel additives sold to address this issue including Stabil, but I'm not sure that any of them actually work. I would need to see testing or perform my own.

In the meantime, HB Scooters suggests that you ride your scooter once a week for 20 mins to prevent this problem.

The number one question I get from most customers: "Do I need a motorcycle license to ride a scooter?” The short answer is yes, regardless of engine size. 

There is a lot of misinformation out there, from the DMV, other dealers trying to sell you a bike, friends, family, etc. Even the California DMV handbook is misleading in that they call a GoPed a motorized scooter. However, you do not need a motorcycle license to buy a scooter and get it delivered to your house only to ride it on the road. 

It’s easy enough to get the license from the DMV: 

1. Study the handbook.
   
2. Take a multiple choice test which will give you a one year permit.
   
3. During that year, take your scooter to the DMV and go around the cones and the circle a couple of times for your M1 endorsement.
   
4. Then you can ride any size bike. 
   

People under 21 must take the California approved Motorcycle Safety Class. There are many classes around the Los Angeles area and they are all listed online and usually held at local colleges.
